Splashdown, Crash Down

Splashdown in the ocean knocks the stuffing out of me
Chopper to the carrier, but I’m still all at sea
Funny how I can’t quite visualise my own wife’s face
I’m hustled into quarantine instead of her embrace

Eight days I could blink and miss, in all my life so far
But not the days I trod the Moon, came home a shooting star
Everybody tells me there’s a strangeness in my gaze
A distance they can’t calibrate, a visionary blaze

And I feel like my ticket to infinity
Was cancelled for no good reason I can see
I crash down, an angel in disgrace
I fell from space
I’m still falling.

Home has changed forever, my old values disappear
Everyone’s on auto-pilot, no-one’s really here
Last night on the patio, I glanced into the sky
The Harvest Moon was shining clear and I began to cry

'Cause I feel like my ticket to infinity
Was cancelled for no good reason I can see
I crash down, an angel in disgrace
I fell from space
I’m still falling.
